A 24-Position Semiautomatic Vacuum Tube Exhaust Machine

Source

As a general rule, it is not economically feasible to purchase complex automatic equipment for the production of vacuum tubes in job lot quantities. However, Varian Associates recently installed to good advantage an exhaust machine incorporating unique specialized features. Among these were the use of getter-ion pumps, a high-temperature (700°C) oven used during a major part of the cycle, and a high degree of electrical process automation. As a result, tube processing is more uniform, the production rate per month has increased significantly, production costs have decreased, and the cost of the equipment can be written off in five years.
