Revision of D4867/D4867M-22e1 Standard Test Method for Effect of Moisture on Asphalt Mixtures
Rationale
Percentage of air voids is widely accepted to influence results of mechanical property tests for asphalt mixtures, with most standards limiting air voids to ±0.5% of the target air void content as a result; D4867/D4867M currently allows 7 ± 1 % air voids. Similarly, degree of saturation is widely accepted to influence conditioned indirect tensile strength and tensile strength ratio (TSR) results, particularly with the wide range of 55 to 80% currently allowed in D4867/D4867M. This work item seeks to revise D4867/D4867M through two separate ballot items to address concerns with current air void and degree of saturation requirements. Specifically, the motivation is to harmonize D4867/D4867M with AASHTO T 283 in these areas, which are the only two areas to be revised.
