Revision of A961/A961M-25a Standard Specification for Common Requirements for Steel Flanges, Forged Fittings, Valves, and Parts for Piping Applications
Rationale
The -24a edition of ASTM A350 introduced a section (7.3) for the testing of ASME B16.5 and B16.47 type flange forgings. Note that this section addresses testing the forging itself rather than a separate test forging. This section is broadly accepted by flange manufacturers and users. There are other ASTM standards that are used to produce B16.5 and B16.47 flanges. These include A105, A182, A694, and A707. All the listed product standards are included in standard A961 - Standard Specification for Common Requirements for Steel Flanges, Forged Fittings, Valves, and Parts for Piping Applications.
Hence, the subcommittee desires to replicate section 7.3 of A350 in A961. Separately, A105, A182, A350, A694 and A707 will be revised to refer to A961 for the testing of B16.5 and B16.47 flange forgings.
