New Guide for Training of Basic Abandoned or Inactive Mine Search and Rescue Team Member

1. Scope

This guide establishes the minimum training required for personnel who take part in search and rescue (SAR) operations in abandoned or inactive mines that do not have hazardous atmospheres.

Keywords

abandoned mine; atmosphere; explosive; hazardous; inactive mine; IDLH; mine; rescue; rope, search; search and rescue; SAR; underground

Rationale

The F32 committee voted to create two standards for the training of SAR personnel operating in abandoned or inactive mines. The first, or basic, standard would define the minimum training required for personnel operating in mines lacking known hazardous atmospheres. The second standard would define the minimum training required for personnel operating in mines with hazardous atmospheres.

The title and scope are in draft form and are under development within this ASTM Committee.
