New Practice for Infrastructure Connected Vehicle Data Extraction (ICODE)
1. Scope
outlines a method for collecting road infrastructure data using factory installed embedded software that operates exclusively on original, factory-installed vehicle sensors.
Keywords
ICODE; Vehicle Data; infrastructure data
Rationale
Connected Vehicle Data (CVD) for infrastructure is rapidly expanding, with many different data sources and generation methods entering the market. To reduce procurement risk, agencies need a clear standard that defines what type of “data” is being delivered and how it is generated. This ASTM standard focuses on OEM-approved, factory-installed sensor data, ensuring long-term availability, data quality, and regulatory compliance. By attaching this standard, agencies gain confidence that the data is reliable, comparable, and suitable for long-term infrastructure investment decisions. In a next phase, specific connected vehicle data types will be defined in a separate but related standard that builds on and explicitly refers to this foundational practice.
The title and scope are in draft form and are under development within this ASTM Committee.
