Revision of A858/A858M-25 Standard Specification for Heat-Treated Carbon Steel Fittings for Low-Temperature and Corrosive Service
Rationale
This proposed revision addresses two sections of standard A858.
The first corrects a reference in section 6.4. The reference to Section 14 for the treatment of other imperfections is wrong. It is Section 13 that deals with Surface Finish, Appearance and Corrosion Protection.
Second, in Table 2 for mechanical requirements, a width of 1.5 in. is specified for rectangular tension test specimens with a thickness less than 0.31 in. No width is specified for specimens with a thickness of 0.31 in. and over. In contrast, in A370, Section 10 it is described that plate-type specimens with a width of 1.500 in. are used for a nominal thickness of 3/16 (=0.1875) in. or over. According to Section 11, sheet-type specimens with a width of 0.500 in. are used for a nominal thickness of 0.005 in. to 1 in. The proposed revision eliminates this inconsistency by deleting the width requirement for specimens with a thickness less than 0.31 in. in Table 2
