New Test Method for Trace CO and CO2 in Ethylene by Gas Chromatography.
1. Scope
This method is for determining low concentrations (0.5 to 500 mol-ppm) of carbon monoxide (CO) and carbon dioxide (CO2) in gas-phase ethylene samples. The carbon oxide species are catalytically reduced to methane for detection using a flame ionization detector.
Keywords
methanizer, reduction catalyst
Rationale
Analysis of CO and CO2 by methanizer was included in ASTM methods D2504 and D2505. These historic methods were allowed to become withdrawn due to a lack of working systems in the field to perform an ILS. The industry is still using the methanizer portion of these methods regularly, so a new method with a limited scope is required to cover these configurations.
The title and scope are in draft form and are under development within this ASTM Committee.
