Revision of D8221-23 Standard Practice for Determining the Calculated Methane Number (MNC ) of Gaseous Fuels Used in Internal Combustion Engines
Rationale
The ASTM MNc method has now been issued by ISO 17507-1. D8221 should now be updated to replace the reference to EN 16726 Annex A to ISO 17507-1. During the development of the ISO standard, a new executable file (.exe) had been developed and can now be included in the tools offered with D8221. D8221 could also be reviewed for some improvements including more discussion on uncertainty. Since the initial release of D8221, a VBA version of the Fortran code has been developed which while running slower than the current dynamic link libraries, would allow Mac iOS users to run the method on a single gaseous fuel sample. It is also proposed to place the current Annex A material into a separate "readme" file that would be part of the adjunct files package.
