A guide for best practices in reviewing common defects, phases and microstructural features in nickel based superalloys such as ideal etchants and magnifications for analysis as well as photo standards and definitions of visual features to assist with identification.

Rationale
There is currently no ASTM standard that covers this topic for Nickel alloys, and the ASM Guides are dated. The purpose of this guide is to help those entering the nickel superalloy industry to understand best practices for reviewing common microstructural defects, phases, and features seen in industry.
