New Test Method for Using Hand-Held Electronic or Bimetal Thermometers to Monitor Asphalt Mixture Temperatures in the Field
1. Scope
The proper use of hand-held digital, bimetal, and infrared thermometers for monitoring the temperature of asphalt mixtures during production, placement, and compaction, and with temperatures typically 50 to 220°C [122 to 428°F].
Keywords
asphalt mixture; field measurement; temperature; thermometer
Rationale
There is currently not a standard in ASTM that describes these activities. This standard would be beneficial to asphalt mixture producers and field paving technicians as a practice to measure the temperature with hand held devices, such as infrared non-contact or direct contact methods.
The title and scope are in draft form and are under development within this ASTM Committee.
