Revision of F2840-14(2023) Standard Practice for Design and Manufacture of Electric Propulsion Units for Light Sport Aircraft
Rationale
The proposed changes to this standard seek to incorporate additional aircraft types and to modify the terminology used to characterize the propulsion unit. Recent regulations designate the propulsion unit as an engine, rather than a motor. Furthermore, an overspeed test has been incorporated into the qualification tests. Overspeed tests are a standard component of other electric motor/engine standards, and their absence from the original standard is believed to be an oversight.
