New Practice for Lubricating Grease Particle Analysis using a Hegman Gage

1. Scope

This standard describes a methodology for qualifying the amount of and approximate size of particles present in lubricating greases using a Hegman-type gage

Keywords

dispersion; solid lubricants; agglomerates

Rationale

the grease industry has been working to try to quantify the particles in lubricating greases using a Hegman gage for the past 15 years. Work has shown that the proposed test method does not have sufficient precision to be a test method and so a standard practice was drafted

The title and scope are in draft form and are under development within this ASTM Committee.
