Revision of G8-24 Standard Test Methods for Cathodic Disbonding of Coated Steel

Rationale

Currently there are three ASTM Standard Test Methods on Cathodic Disbondment (CD) testing under the jurisdiction of subcommittee D01.48, including:
• ASTM G8-24 that contains Methods A, B and C
• ASTM G42-19 that is past due, and
• ASTM D6676-21 that has now come up for review and requires an ILS.
The ILS data in ASTM G8 and G42 are dated. The Tech Contact proposes to merge ASTM G42 and D6676 with ASTM G8 to produce one ASTM test standard method for all CD testing (i.e., Methods A-F in a single standard) and to add another commonly used other CD test procedure as Method G.
This balloted version of ASTM G8 standard contains four additional methods:
D (based on ASTM G42)
E (based on ASTM D6676, Method 1)
F (based on ASTM D6676, Method 2)
G (New method)
Once the new, expanded G8 passes the Main Committee ballot, the Chair will initiate ballots to withdraw both G42 and D6676. Finally, the Technical Chairs will begin work on an ILS for all seven (7) CD methods in G8.
