Revision of C140/C140M-25 Standard Test Methods for Sampling and Testing Concrete Masonry Units and Related Units

Rationale

In 2023, C1884 Specification for Concrete Ballast Block was renamed as C1884 Specification for Manufactured Concrete Ballast Units and was revised throughout to consolidate and incorporate the requirements of C1491 Specification for Concrete Roof Pavers into a single standard. In 2024, the testing requirements for the new C1884 were incorporated into a revamped Annex A6.
While the requirements for compressive strength coupons work well for the vast majority of concrete ballast units, some units like legacy roof pavers with a relatively thin body and support ribs, have a body thickness of less than 1.5 in. [40 mm]) and do not allow obtaining a coupon that meets the requirement in A6.4.2 (1).
This ballot item is modifying A6.4.2 to requirements for units that have a minimum dimension of less than 1.5 in. [40 mm].
Note that a similar item was balloted on C15 (25-02) main ballot although that item had put the information in a non-mandatory note. That item had a persuasive negative that indicated that it was better to put the information directly into the body of the standard as a mandatory requirement. The task group agreed and is balloting the new language in this ballot item.
