This guide provides steps and procedures for visually evaluating a stormwater treatment control measure for the purpose of determining function and selecting and scheduling corresponding maintenance to correct malfunction.

Rationale
Visual inspection is a primary tool for quickly assessing the performance of a stormwater control measure and can be used to select and schedule the appropriate maintenance to correct any malfunction. Municipal workers, private contractors, watershed districts, and other entities that are responsible for stormwater control measures are required by NPDES and MS4 permits to inspect and maintain their stormwater control measures but no standard method is available.
