New Test Method for Determination of Total Chlorine and Total Fluorine by Ion Chromatography in Vessel Rinse Solutions Obtained from Coal Oxidized by Oxygen Vessel Combustion

1. Scope

1.1 This test method covers the determination of total chlorine and total fluorine in vessel rinse solutions obtained from coal oxidized by oxygen vessel combustion.

Keywords

anions

Rationale

The purpose of this test method is to determine total fluorine and chlorine in vessel rinse solutions obtained from coal oxidized by oxygen vessel combustion. The solutions are analyzed by ion chromatography. The chlorine content of coals may be useful in the evaluation of slagging problems and corrosion in engineering processes. Fluorine content is useful in the evaluation of fluorine emissions from coal combustion or conversion processes and can be used for compliance determinations when acceptable to a regulatory authority using performance based criteria.

The title and scope are in draft form and are under development within this ASTM Committee.
