New Test Method for the evaluation of shatter resistant window using ball drop impact

1. Scope

Development of a standardized testing protocol for Shatter Resistant Window Film (SRWF) used in blast mitigation. The goal is to create a unified test sample configuration and installation procedure to ensure consistent and comparable results across different films. This new standard would be integrated with an existing ASTM International test protocol (F3006 and F3007) to verify if a film meets the minimum performance requirements.

Keywords

ball drop, impact, film

Rationale

This approach could significantly improve the reliability and comparability of test results, making it easier to evaluate and select the most effective SRWF for blast mitigation purposes and eliminate the confusing tensile and elongation property submissions for these materials.

The title and scope are in draft form and are under development within this ASTM Committee.
