ASTM WK93971

New Test Method for Test Method for the Analysis of Fentanyl and Related Substances Using Gas-Chromatography-Infrared Spectroscopy (GC-IR)

1. Scope

This standard specifies the requirements for the testing of fentanyl and fentanyl related substances in seized drug evidence using Gas Chromatography-Infrared Spectroscopy.

Keywords

infrared detector; fentanyl; GC-IR

Rationale

The use of GC-IR, as a complementary confirmatory technique to GC-MS, in seized drug analysis has been increasing in the past few years. However, there are no standards in how to conduct these tests. This test method will provide minimum requirements appropriate for the identification of fentanyl and fentanyl related substances using GC-IR; and will reference the already published interlaboratory study conducted in 2021 for the analysis of fentanyl and fentanyl related substances.

The title and scope are in draft form and are under development within this ASTM Committee.
