New Test Method for Pavement Deflection Velocity Measurement with a Traffic Speed Deflection Device (TSDD) that uses Laser Doppler Vibrometers
1. Scope
This practice covers collection of pavement deflection velocity data using a traffic speed deflection device (TSDD) that uses Laser Doppler Vibrometers (LDVs).
Keywords
traffic speed deflection device; TSDD; pavement deflection; pavement structural condition; Doppler laser; laser Doppler vibrometer
Rationale
No standard exists in the US that specifies the components of a LDV-based traffic speed deflection device, how to operate such a device, or what data should be reported from such a device. The new standard will be used by pavement owners (primarily Departments of Transportation) to request collection of pavement structural condition data using LDV-based TSDDs. Providers of TSDD testing will use the standard to ensure they are meeting minimum requirements for data collection and delivery.
The title and scope are in draft form and are under development within this ASTM Committee.
