Revision of C1401-14(2022) Standard Guide for Structural Sealant Glazing
Rationale
Justification for the proposed revision is to eliminate an inadvertent bias that exists in the current standard. The current standard either precludes or deters consideration of opacified spandrel glass with a factory-applied silicone coating as suitable for structural sealant glazing where it should be given consideration under like criteria for other materials that are specifically named as suitable. The standard also recommends costly fabrication processes (i.e., edge deletion of the silicone coating) that may deter consideration of opacified spandrel glass with a factory-applied silicone coating for structural sealant glazing even where those processes would not be necessary if applicable project-specific design and testing requirements are met.
