New Practice for Preparation of Asphalt Mixture Samples for Performance-Related Testing
1. Scope
Developed a standard practice for the preparation of asphalt mixture samples that addresses: aggregate and asphalt binder heating, mixing, conditioning in an oven with uniform temperature, compaction, time to sit before cutting/trimming, ambient storage time before testing.
Keywords
Sample preparation, performance or performance-related testing, aging, conditioning
Rationale
Testing lab have found that while we can perform asphalt mixture related tests with a reasonable amount of error (COV 15%) we struggle to repeat the values if the samples are not made in the same lab/same process. This standard practice will propose a uniform method for preparation, conditioning, and storage time of asphalt mixtures to reduce testing variably.
The title and scope are in draft form and are under development within this ASTM Committee.
