Shear Stability of Laminated Anisotropic Plates
An analytical and experimental study of the shear stability of laminated anisotropic plates is presented. The plates considered are rectangular, have clamped edges, and are fabricated with laminated construction of boron-epoxy composite material. Such plates, when the laminates are midplane symmetric, are anisotropic in nature. The analytical solutions are obtained by means of the principle of stationary potential energy, using the Ritz method. The deflected shape is approximated with beam characteristic functions. Experimental results are presented for 14 boron-epoxy plates and for 2 aluminum plates, and the results compared with the theory. Good agreement is shown.
