The Nil-Ductility Temperature Shift Arising from Irradiation as Predicted Through the French Test Reactor Experiments
For the irradiation test programs specifically conducted in France, the current relationships for the Charpy V transition temperature shifts indexed at the 41-J and 68-J energy levels are established for copper, nickel, and phosphorus contents and fluence. The chromium content has no effect. These shifts are well correlated to the fracture toughness shifts obtained through precracked Charpy specimen testing, but no conservatism is found. Finally, these shifts correlate with the yield strength increase owing to irradiation and some insight into the physical mechanism of embrittlement is given.
