Evaluation of Fatigue Capabilities of High-Performance Military Aircraft

A joint program has been established by the Air Force, Navy, and McDonnell Aircraft Corp. to accumulate flight load maneuver data for fatigue evaluation purposes on F-4 series aircraft. Data obtained in this program will permit constant surveillance of the flight load history being experienced by each individual F-4 airplane. Data on over-all F-4 usage are presented and discussed. Parameters being evaluated and methods for reducing data to study these parameters are outlined. Statistical representation and interpretation of various parameters are discussed. The benefits that can be derived from a comprehensive flight load monitoring program are emphasized.
