A necessary adjunct to the ASTM-NACE questionnaire on the stress-corrosion cracking of stainless steels was the gathering of background or general information data. A series of questions was, therefore, devised to establish the extent of the problem and to learn what industry is doing to overcome the incidence of cracking. This portion of the report summarizes the situation as it now exists. For convenience, the questions are stated individually and the answers interpreted.
