Introduction
SourceSince it had been some time since Technical Committee F of Committee D-2 on Petroleum Products and Lubricants had sponsored a symposium on diesel fuel, the advisory section of this committee met in Chicago on July 29, 1953, and outlined a program for a symposium that would cover all phases of the diesel fuel picture. A group of authors was selected on the basis of their qualifications to handle the subjects to be discussed. Eight papers were prepared covering the diesel fuel supply and demand outlook, the various problems associated with the procurement and usage of diesel fuels, as well as a review of the diesel fuel specification requirements which have been investigated by Technical Committee F. We believe that the men who gave generously of their time and effort in presenting their views on the diesel fuel situation have contributed to a more complete understanding of the problems that relate to better production, selection, and utilization of diesel fuels.
