Location and Measurement of Stresses in Gray Iron Tractor Castings
SourceFor a number of years, we have been using the brittle lacquer technique and the resistance-type gages in studying stresses in gray-iron castings. The brittle lacquers are used to locate areas of high stress concentration and the direction of the stresses. Then, the wire gages are used to determine the amount of stress. Several examples may be of interest.
