Practices for Determining the Expected Life of Used Turbine Oils

This paper presents data on used turbine oils obtained from a turbine oil testing service covering the past ten years. Oils from turbines of varying generating capacity and manufacture have been tested on a semiannual or annual basis. The service records of oils from nine turbines are used in this study. From these data, methods for determining the expected life of used turbine oils have been developed, and practices have been evolved which will greatly extend the life of these oils.
