The Influence of Pendulum Flexibilities on Impact Energy Measurements

It is hypothesized that the flexibilities of impact machines give rise to a potentially significant error in the usual impact test. An overly simplified and idealized model of an impact machine is analyzed in some detail. In particular, the relation between the stiffness of the machine, the effective stiffness of the specimen, and the maximum load developed is explored.
