The question, “can the quality of a finished weld be determined from its external appearance,” is frequently asked by those who become interested in the application of welding. An answer in the affirmative can be given. A good and a bad weld have their definite characteristics, easily recognized by average inspectors and supervisors, no elaborate methods or rules being necessary.
