The background of the immersion-compression test and some of the important uses of the test in evaluating bituminous paving mixtures are given, followed by a discussion of the more important factors to be considered in designing bituminous mixtures. Illustrations are given showing how these factors are treated in the Bureau of Public Roads method of design.
