The gas Chromatograph, because of its simplicity, sensitivity and speed, has become a useful tool of the hydrocarbon analyst. Three recent developments (1) the use of ionization detectors rather than thermal conductivity cells, (2) the use of open tubular columns rather than packed columns, and (3) programmed temperature gas chromatography have increased the instrument's ability to analyze trace elements, complex mixtures, and samples of a wide-boiling nature. In this paper some present applications are reviewed, and applications to stream analysis, and determinations of vapor-liquid ratio, knock characterisitcs, inhibitors, and composition of crude oil are suggested.
