Metal-to-Resin Adhesion as Determined by a Stripping Test
SourceAdhesion of metals to resins may be determined by curing a resin in contact with a metal foil and subsequently stripping the foil from the resin under controlled conditions. Following this procedure, applications are given where a liquid epoxy resin was cast and cured over aluminum, brass, and steel foils. Tests were run at several stripping angles and stripping speeds. The effect of several epoxy resin hardeners on metal-to-resin adhesion is presented. To a lesser extent data are presented on the adhesion of aluminum foil to glass reinforced epoxy resin and polyester resin laminates. Modification of the stripping procedure to permit determination of adhesion of protective coating resins to metals is mentioned.
