Influence of Ski Boot Design on Skiing Safety and Skiing Performance
SourceDifferent representative ski boots were examined by a new measurement device. The pressure distribution at the front of the lower extremity, the force at the heel, and the angle between the lower leg and the foot were measured, and the interactions are discussed. Different boot shaft designs lead to completely different pressure distributions in the lower leg. At the same foot/leg angle, the force at the heel of today's bindings varies widely. The results of the learning process for skiers randomly equipped with different stiffnesses of ski boot shafts, and the variations in their individual pain levels at the front of the lower leg lead to suggestions for requirements for modern boot shafts.
