Thermal Loading of Streams

Source

This paper discusses the methods used to accumulate the data necessary to formulate a set of regulations governing the discharge of heated water to streams. It includes the results of a series of temperature surveys covering about 100 miles of rivers and analyzes the findings. The effects of heat on streams is becoming a matter of concern in various industrialized sections of the country. The recommendations of an advisory committee adopted by the Pennsylvania Sanitary Water Board should provide a pattern for other states with the same problem. The work of the committee illustrates the value of cooperative studies in resolving controversial issues.
