The industry needs that prompted the formation of Technical Committee N are reviewed, and the organization and objectives of the committee are outlined. The activities of the committee and its various sections are discussed in general terms. Data of a summary nature are presented to illustrate the type of work now in progress. The paper concludes with a brief outline of the immediate and long-range goals of the committee.
