Survey of Roadside Diesel Fuel Filterability
SourceA nation-wide survey was conducted in the spring of 1965 to obtain information on the cleanliness and quality of diesel fuels available at roadside truck stops. Roadside diesel fuels were found to be generally clean and of good quality. Normal inspection properties were found not indicative of a fuel's filterability. The harmful effects of various common or occasional fuel contaminants on filterability were determined. Fuel filterability, as measured in the laboratory filtration test, was found to be dependent on the size and quantity of the particulate matter present in each fuel and on the porosity of the filter.
