Microseismics
SourceThis paper describes a series of experiments having as their main purpose the investigation of the dynamic characteristics of soils. Waves in the soil were produced by a mechanical oscillator on top of the soil and picked up by seismometers on the surface and by pressure cells below the surface of the soil. Since the distance between oscillator and pickup units did not exceed 200 ft, this study is called “microseismics” in contrast to macroseismic investigations, which deal with larger distances—for example, earthquakes. Laboratory and field experiments are discussed and their results analyzed.
