1-1 Some Aspects of the Surface Chemistry of Adhesion
SourceIdeal intrinsic adhesion is defined in terms of the calculated force required to separate two surfaces, and typical values are given, along with the very much smaller ones normally found in practical situations. A second kind of ideal adhesion is also defined, namely the work of adhesion, or the reversible work of separation of two phases. This second type of adhesion quantity can be small, and some of the interrelations between it and intrinsic adhesion are discussed.
