The Western Pine Assn. Research Laboratory over the past four years has developed a long-sought mechanical stress rating system. The system was developed as an alternate means of stress rating of dimension lumber and provides: (1) More complete utilization of lumber’s inherent strength, (2) greater accuracy of stress rating lumber, (3) full length stress rating of the board, and (4) increased speed with greater reliability.
