Method of Test for Hydrogen Embrittlement Due to Electrolytic Cadmium Plating
SourceThe small quantities of hydrogen that cause embrittlement of most high-strength steels require careful consideration, especially when selecting a cadmium plating process to be used for plating high-strength steels. It would be highly desirable to measure the exact quantity of hydrogen introduced by a given plating process. Unfortunately, presently available analytical methods are not sufficiently accurate to measure the small quantities of hydrogen that can cause embrittlement. An alternative is to evaluate the quantity of hydrogen present by measuring some mechanical effect of the hydrogen under carefully controlled conditions.
