Mechanical Properties of Semiconductors
SourceSignificant interest in the mechanical properties of semiconductor materials dates from about 1952 when Gallagher (1)2 first demonstrated that the supposedly brittle substance germanium becomes plastic at sufficiently elevated temperatures. Almost all we know about the mechanical behavior of this and similar materials has been learned in the intervening eight years so the whole subject falls well within the scope of a symposium on “Recent Progress in Materials Science.”
