High-Temperature Strain-Gage Testing at Rolls-Royce

Measurement of the change in gage factor with variation in temperature is accomplished at Rolls-Royce (England) by means of a very simple dynamic test rig. The device, shown in Fig. 1, consists of a tuning fork whose tynes are recessed through milling near the tyne roots. The test gages are applied to the bottom of the recess. The base of the fork is placed in a tubular oven, and the gage temperature accurately measured by means of a thermocouple welded to one of the tynes.
