Many reports on the evaluation of resistance-type high-temperature strain gages by the National Bureau of Standards. U. S. Naval Air Material Center, and others, have demonstrated that considerable variation in performance may be expected from presumably identical high-temperature straingage installations. The Baldwin-Lima-Hamilton Corp. experienced this to be true even when careful precautions are taken to insure that the foil- or wiregage elements are identical in their mechanical history and metallurgical composition. The major variable left is, of course, the bonding cement and the manner of its use.
