Methods employing advanced instrumentation are being widely used for water quality monitoring and analysis. Many of the ASTM standard methods have been automated in various degrees. Instrumental methods have proliferated because they generally require less manpower and give more data with more objectivity than manual procedures, and they permit closed loop control of a system or process.
