Hydraulic Fluid Closed Compartment Fire Tests
SourceA Closed Compartment Fire Test for evaluating fire resistance of hydraulic fluids in advanced supersonic aircraft is discussed. This test simulates leakage in proximity to heated aircraft skin at temperatures up to 550°F, both with and without simultaneous electrical arcing. The response to an electrical arc (time to initiate fire), size of fire, intensity of fire, flame propagation, and duration of fire after removal of arc are observed during each test. Simulative flammability tests of this type are required, since conventional hot manifold drip and spray tests do not always predict fluid flammability within the confines of a heated, closed compartment.
