Significance of Test Results Obtained from Random Samples
SourceProblems associated with applying test data obtained from random samples to highway specifications are discussed. Illustrations are given using data from the AASHO Road Test and other sources. The possibility is suggested that infrequent randomly chosen tests may be of little value. On the other hand, routine quality control tests frequently made as material is produced and placed should provide adequate information for acceptance of materials. A statistical procedure for routine acceptance of material or highway work is introduced.
