Microscopical Apparatus and Techniques for Observing the Fiber-Forming Process
SourceA glass cell is described which fits on a standard microscope stage and which permits observation of a single filament of fiber-forming material as it is extruded and coagulated in a liquid medium. As examples of the morphological studies possible, photomicrographs are shown of fiber breakage (by high-speed motion pictures), light-scattering in dark field, and orientation by polarized light.
