Chemical Durability Evaluation of Electronic Glasses

The range of chemical resistance of glasses used by the electronic industry is large. Official ASTM and USP tests may be used to screen and broadly classify the various compositions. There is an obvious need, however, for more specific tests to distinguish between member glasses of a particular field or area of composition. The features required for specific tests are discussed, as well as evaluation of results obtained with these tests. Tests developed for solder glasses, aluminosilicate, and high-expansion sealing glasses are discussed.
