The filament-winding technique for the fabrication of pressure vessels has gained wide acceptance in recent years because of the favorable strength to weight ratio that may be achieved with it compared to other methods of fabrication. Additional advantages are the short lead time needed for tool fabrication and the economies that can be realized relative to metal cases for large rocket motor cases.
